Comparative Study of the Mitochondrial Proteome in a Rett Syndrome Mouse Model

Rett (RTT) syndrome is a neural development disorder. Gene, for culprit protein, MeCP2 (methylated CpG binding protein) is located in chromosome X and majority of patients are young girls. RTT patients do not suffer with neurodegenerative process, instead, due to neurons abnormal small size and danced packaging, brain general volume is reduced and synapses and dendrites structures are weakened.

All research will be done on males of Mecp2 knockout mice and wild-type of mice. The selection of males is based on the knowledge that male mice exhibit Rett Syndrome features more strongly and earlier than females. The main topic of research is the comparative study of hippocampal mitochondrial proteome in the Rett syndrome and wild-type mice

” I am more than grateful for being chosen as participant in the Lehmann-Haupt International Doctoral Program. This program means a lot for me as it allows me to study and work under two experienced and well reputed supervisors in this scientific field and gain valuable research experience without leaving my home for long time. “
