LHIDP DOCTORAL STUDENTS’ JOINT EXCURSION TO TBILISI BOTANICAL GARDEN AND THE BOTANICAL INSTITUTE OF ILIA STATE UNIVERSITY

On June 28, 2019 the participants of the Lehmann-Haupt International Doctoral Program together went on an excursion to the Botanical Garden of Tbilisi. Doctoral student Vasil Metreveli works in the field of Forest Ecology and was thus able to give the group a perfect guidance for this joint activity. Vasil explained the other doctoral students many facts about the plant species of the Caucasus region. He also reported exciting facts about the plant species of other regions of the
world, which can also be found in the Botanical Garden, e.g. in the section of the Japanese garden. In addition, the Botanical Institute of Ilia State University – which is located right in the Botanical Garden – was introduced to the students. The group of LHIDP doctoral students spent a highly interesting afternoon together and at the same time the participants were able to get a good insight into Vasil’s work and research activities.

Vasil Metreveli is a doctoral student and participant of the LHIDP. His doctoral research project focuses on “Chestnut (Castanea sativa) Ecology in the Caucasus”.
