TAMAR QEBURIA’S PRESENTATION AT THE DOCTORAL FORUM

On 17th June 2020, Tamar Qeburia, PhD student of the Carl Friedrich Lehmann- Haupt International Doctoral Program, presented the brief presentation of her ongoing doctoral research project “Work and consumerism in the peripheral industrial city of Georgia – Reconstructing the historical experiences and biographies of people living during the Late Socialism.” The presentation was prepared under the 15 min talk format with 45 min follow up discussion. During the discussion, Tamar summarised the research directions that she will undertake during her work – the micro-history of ferroalloy plant in Zestafoni, the politics of labour in the biggest industrial factory of late Soviet Georgia, and the bottom-up social history of ordinary people under the Soviet rule. During her presentation, she also discussed the particular methodological approaches – archival work, oral history and biographical study methods. The presentation was followed by very hot debates and discussions about the Soviet history of
modern Georgia.
