Nino Siprashvili, one of the participants of the Carl Friedrich Lehmann-Haupt
International Doctoral program, presented her project outline for her PHD project
research on Religious Knowledge and Identity Formation in Ajara. The Doctoral forum
took place on June 3rd 2020. Nino Discussed the importance of religious knowledge in
shaping local practices and forming a Muslim identity in the region. To study the topic,
Nino will apply participant observation as her primary field method, and will conduct her
fieldwork in Ajara for up to ten months. During the Q&A useful suggestions and
questions were given with regards to theoretical aspects as well as for the methodology of
her planned research.
