Liberal democratic order – established since World War II in the West – has been facing great challenges and crises during the last decade. To describe and analyse this crisis and its provoking realities, various approaches and theoretical frames have been offered in literature. The research aims to theoretically systematise various explanations of the ongoing crisis of liberal democracy, to clarify where they overlap or inform each other and what their unique, specific characteristics are. Some explanations/interpretations only point out the negative or reactive, anti-systemic protest of the populace. The research aims to examine if there is a possibility to identify, in the current anti-liberal movements, some positive demands or aspirations (positive not in an evaluative sense, but in the sense of having specific contents); i.e., if these anti-systemic movements and sentiments can be understood not merely as a negative anti- systemic protest against the established order, but as consolidated around a demand reflecting some substantial deficiencies of liberal democracies worldwide.

The doctoral program “Democracy, Human Rights and Religion” is the best option for my further academic development, as it is organized in a way to respond all my present-day interests. Academic environment offered by the joint PhD program of Ilia State University and the Münster University will offer me an opportunity to learn more about the whole theoretical framework of my research project. Since the complex and complicated relationship between the theories, their differences and common points are widely discussed at the Münster University’s academic context. Working with Georgian and German professors, PhD students and other members of the cluster will create a perfect environment for my research during upcoming years.
